RODALI – A CENTRE FOR CANCER AWARENESS AND COUNSELLING is a registered, nonprofit, voluntary organisation for spreading cancer awareness among masses and counselling cancer patients. Its jurisdiction is the state of Assam and the North-East. The reason for starting it is the high prevalence of the disease in Assam and in the entire North-East that are the most cancer affected states in whole of India.
Members of RODALI are men and women of any profession. Doctors willing to help cancer patients from this region are most welcome. RODALI has some doctors among its members. One of the founder members being a breast cancer survivor, RODALI guides breast cancer patients to survive and go back to their normal lives after treatment. A free counselling centre for breast cancer patients used to be conducted earlier by us at Nemcare Hospital, Bhangagarh, Guwahati since March 2009 to May 2011. Recently, we have started a centre for counselling cancer patients at St.John’s Hospital, Christian Basti, Guwahati.
RODALI conducts seminars, workshops and awareness programmes to propagate knowledge about cancer among the masses. Members of RODALI publish articles in newspapers and magazines to educate the masses. RODALI has organized several voluntary blood donation camps in collaboration with Guwahati Medical College Hospital Blood Bank.
We in RODALI believe that lack of awareness among people is a major cause of many untimely deaths. Many people are unaware even today that tobacco, betel nut, cigarette, bidi, jarda, panmasala, gutkha, sikhar, khaini, etc. are dangerous for health. Of course many people knowingly continue to use them and finally fall prey to such habits. Many women out of unawareness and a false sense of shame and modesty fall prey to cancer of the uterine cervix and breast. RODALI organizes lectures with visual aids at schools and colleges against the use of tobacco products. These lectures are given by doctors, scientists and social activists.
